The First National Conference on “Frontiers of Applied Artificial Intelligence” was hosted by University of Science and Technology of Mazandaran (MAZUST) on June 9–10, 2026 (19–20 Khordad 1405), bringing together faculty members, researchers, students, specialists, and professionals in the field of artificial intelligence from across Iran.

The scientific event was organized to provide a platform for knowledge exchange, presentation of the latest research achievements, development of scientific collaborations, and strengthening interaction among academia, industry, and executive organizations. The conference addressed six specialized areas: Generative Artificial Intelligence; AI in Medicine and Healthcare; AI in Electronics and Robotics; Data Modeling and Analysis; Smart Cities; and AI Applications in Marine Sciences and the Environment.

At the opening ceremony, the President of MAZUST highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in global developments, describing it not merely as an emerging technology but as a foundation for transformation in science, technology, industry, and human life. He emphasized that the future development of countries will increasingly depend on the intelligent utilization of AI capabilities and that universities should accordingly move beyond the conventional transmission of knowledge toward educating creative, problem-oriented professionals capable of effectively interacting with intelligent systems.

He also identified the development of interdisciplinary programs, revision of educational curricula, and training specialists aligned with future needs as essential priorities for higher education. He noted that MAZUST is pursuing the development of artificial intelligence technologies as one of its strategic scientific and research priorities. At the same time, the University seeks to develop AI within the framework of professional ethics, respect for human dignity, privacy protection, and social responsibility.

The conference was designed to foster synergies among universities, industries, knowledge-based companies, and executive organizations, with the expectation that its outcomes would contribute to sustainable partnerships, interdisciplinary research, and innovative solutions to national challenges.

The event received significant attention from the national scientific community, with 260 papers submitted by universities and leading scientific institutions across the country. Following a scientific peer-review process conducted by approximately 45 faculty members and experts from universities nationwide, 99 papers were accepted for presentation. At the conclusion of the conference, eight outstanding papers from University of Science and Technology of Mazandaran, Noshirvani University of Technology, Semnan University, and Urmia University were selected as the top contributions.

Over the two-day conference, 24 specialized sessions were held across four time slots, with six scientific sessions conducted simultaneously during each slot on various AI-related topics and applications. These sessions provided opportunities to present research findings, critically discuss scientific achievements, and strengthen academic interaction among researchers from universities across the country. In addition, three specialized workshops were conducted by faculty members and experts in artificial intelligence, focusing on emerging technologies, practical tools, and future trends in the field.

One of the major outcomes of the conference was the establishment of a permanent secretariat for the National Conference on Frontiers of Applied Artificial Intelligence at University of Science and Technology of Mazandaran. This initiative is expected to support the continuation of the conference, expand national and international collaborations, and strengthen research and technological activities in artificial intelligence.

Bringing together researchers, academics, specialists, and students from universities across Iran, the First National Conference on “Frontiers of Applied Artificial Intelligence” represented an important step toward advancing scientific knowledge, exchanging expertise, strengthening university–industry collaboration, and identifying emerging AI capabilities for addressing national challenges. Its outcomes are expected to provide a foundation for broader scientific and technological cooperation in the coming years.
